The Family Birth Center is a state-of-the-art facility designed to optimize your comfort, safety and options as you welcome your newest loved one. Conveniently located in the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital, our birth center is equipped with contemporary amenities, including:
- Private triage, delivery, antepartum and postpartum suites
- Two large, private natural birthing suites, both with built-in warm water immersion (hydrotherapy) tubs
- Leading-edge operating rooms to support an optimized cesarean birth experience, when necessary
Specially designed with hospitality, comfort, flexibility and efficiency in mind, the Family Birth Center supports a nurturing and healing atmosphere for your birth experience your way.
Triage Suite
Our five private triage suites maximize comfort during the initial assessment phases of care, including private restroom accommodations.
Labor and Delivery Suite
Our nine labor and delivery suites are private, spacious, and equipped with sophisticated technology. With state-of-the-art infant warmers in each suite, newborns remain close to mom for bedside care.

Warm Water Immersion Therapy (Hydrotherapy)
Both natural birthing suites are equipped with built-in hydrotherapy tubs, offering pain relief and other potential benefits for women in active labor. Hydrotherapy is one of several options available for
natural labor and unmedicated birth at the Family Birth Center.
Mother and Baby Care Postpartum Suite
Our 32 Mother and Baby Care suites are private, spacious and designed to support family bonding during postpartum recovery.

shop online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Operating Room
Our two state-of-the-art operating rooms support optimized cesarean birth experiences, including bedside baby care at all acuity levels — even for twins and triplets.

Labor Pain Management
At the Family Birth Center, we offer a broad range of
pain management options, including pain relief for cesarean deliveries (C-sections) with special considerations to maximize family participation whenever possible.
Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
With the Family Birth Center's convenient location in the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital, our
neonatology experts are close by to provide comprehensive care for infants with high-risk conditions.
Antepartum Suite
Our five private, spacious antepartum suites support maternal-fetal care for pregnant moms who need close monitoring. Conveniently located on our labor and delivery unit, these rooms can also convert to birthing suites. We have three additional antepartum suites in Mother and Baby Care.
