Inspired by D.C.’s city map, the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, and the iconic cherry blossom, the Ideas that Blossom artwork illustrates how 3M Science “blooms” outside in the world. The five blossoms – which are illuminated with 3M™ ScotchliteTM Reflective Material – represent just five of many 3M patents that have been used by other companies to solve challenges.

The focus of our manufacturing exhibit is on gaining efficiency. We want to reduce downtime, increase production, increase quality and keep workers safe. 3M’s solutions help optimize processes through materials, maintenance and safety solutions to help manufactures achieve their goals.

This exhibit speaks to 3M’s role in transportation and road safety and how we are helping to lay the foundation for transportation in the future. For example, Connected Autonomous Vehicles are driving new 3M solutions in lightweighting, connected infrastructure, fuel savings and pollution reduction to improve transportation safety to help bring families home safely.

This exhibit highlights a variety of light weighting solutions for the aerospace industry to help address aircraft energy savings. 3M solutions which keep our aerospace industry flying high and corrosion free.

This exhibit explores how 3M applies its strengths in many of the building blocks of today's electronic devices. Whether it’s making the display on your mobile device clearer and brighter or helping ensure critical electronic systems stay operational in the face of emergencies, we’re bringing new products to the market and helping to usher in the next generation of electronics.
Virtual Reality
Take a virtual ride on the wild side by experiencing 3M solutions in Road Safety, Welding Safety, and Fall Protection. Experience being protected with 3M Fall Protection 20 floors up, and driving in the dark and rain with 3M reflective signage leading you home safely. It’s a great ride ... but not for the faint of heart!
Energy
The energy exhibit explores ways that help make renewable and traditional energy sources more productive, reduce energy consumption and enable a smarter grid. Most of us know that we’re using more energy today than ever before – a lot of it comes over an aging infrastructure and much of it is created from new energy sources – so we need more efficient, reliable and sustainable solutions to meet that energy demand.

The consumer exhibit focuses on our ability to study human behavior to help make life better and easier – both at work and at home. These are the 3M brands that touch your life every day and probably how you know 3M best. From bandages to sandpaper, office display boards to paint remover, we have more than 100 years of experience helping make sure that whatever project you’re tackling is done right.

Our healthcare exhibit focuses on how we enable better care. We explore how 3M enhances patient safety by looking holistically at the care system surrounding them – from the patient, the environment and the data used to enable positive patient outcomes.
