The Dr. Charles and Ann Sanders IMPACT Practice Center provides students from across the health professions the opportunity to learn in a team-based setting, providing care to a variety of clients, under the direct supervision of faculty. Client populations include those with chronic conditions across the lifespan. Interventions incorporate education, wellness, and rehabilitation, as well as preventative strategies for maintaining health.

This room has 12 inpatient hospital beds with functioning headwalls (suction, oxygen, otoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, etc.) and two ceiling lifts. It is primarily used by our pre-licensure nursing courses where students practice skills like IV insertion, prepping IV pumps, medication administration, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, and perineal care on low and medium fidelity manikins. Occupational and physical therapy often use the space to practice line management (helping patients move when they have IV lines, oxygen tubing, chest tubes, etc. on in hospital), helping patients move around (walkers, wheelchairs, towing oxygen tanks, etc.), and operating hospital beds. This lab houses numerous task trainers to help students practice various skills like medication injections, ostomy care, ventilation, and intubation.

The room can be split into 3 separate rooms, or one larger room. It is the largest event space on campus, accommodating up to 300 people, and hosts all academic events for the IHP such as pinning ceremonies, convocation, and Board of Trustees meetings. Users of the space consist primarily of IHP community members and outside organizations affiliated with MGB and the IHP.

Each assessment area also has headwall components, but this environment is meant to simulate an ambulatory medical office. This lab is used primarily by our PA and NP students to practice advanced assessments. Students practice assessing each other, as well as our adult and pediatric auscultation task trainers where students can listen to different heart, lung and bowel sounds.
