Exterior
Exterior
Constructed of native Texas materials, from rustic limestone to polished granite, the facility's different facades reflect the architectural diversity of an historic and vibrant city. An 800 room headquarter hotel is located directly across 4th street from the Austin Convention Center as well as a number of other options for accommodations within walking distance of the facility, offering a variety of price points and amenities. Shuttle drop offs are conveniently located along Trinity and Cesar Chavez streets.
Atrium
Atrium
At the corner of Trinity and Fourth Streets is an elegant glass pavilion, which serves as one of the main entrances to the Convention Center. It contains a single room 152' X 60', and 90' high. It not only provides sun shading, but it also becomes a piece of glass sculpture and a solar energy farm. A series of muted blue panels face due west and contribute color and animation while further reducing heat and glare for the interior. This area is often used for registration. The liberal use of glass throughout, especially in the elegant atrium, fills the building with natural light and provides a multitude of views of the Austin skyline.
Rotunda
Rotunda
The 3-story tall Rotunda, constructed of rustic limestone, serves as one of the official entrances to the Convention Center. Waller Creek Shelves, by artist Damian Priour, was created in 1996 for the Rotunda of the Austin Convention Center. The sculpture features blown glass vessels with found object sculptures on carved limestone and glass shelves. Damian Prior employed homeless individuals to help him gather various objects along the banks of Waller Creek, which runs alongside the Austin Convention Center. He then incorporated these objects into his sculpture. When you look at the Waller Creek Shelves, you will find all sorts of objects, such as eye glasses, candy and gum wrappers shaped into a cone, and shoes!

The art displayed throughout the Austin Convention Center is part of the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program, which makes it possible for talented artists of local and national renown to enhance public spaces throughout the city. The City of Austin was the first municipality in Texas to make a commitment to include works of art in construction projects when it established the Art in Public Places program in 1985. By ordinance, 2% of budgets is allocated to commission or purchase art for public sites such as the convention center. The Austin Arts Commission provides oversight and appoints a seven-member Art in Public Places Panel composed of respected local visual arts and design professionals to make program recommendations.
