Fireside Chats
Peter and Catharine were always interested in preserving local history and keen to capture and share stories of what it was like to live and work in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Catharine especially had a talent for drawing out other’s stories, and frequently enticed friends and neighbours to record their memories on the Sony reel-to-reel audio tape recorder she kept close by.
This tradition continues today, with the Whyte Museum’s Fireside Chats. Explore the museum’s extensive collection of oral history, audio, video and film in person at the Archives, or online through the Digital Vault.
