Welcome to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital, home to The Family Birthplace. The goal of The Family Birthplace is to help bring a healthy baby into the world and make the experience as special, memorable and safe as possible.
Family Waiting Room
Grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles – your baby has so many special people to meet! We keep them close and comfortable in our family waiting room, with free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV’s and space for relaxing. We also offer 24-hour visitor access with the patient’s consent.
Women's Evaluation Unit
The Women’s Evaluation Unit at SSM Health St. Clare provides comfort, convenience and care for moms-to-be. This is a pre-admission area for pregnant women and allows those in an emergency situation or with sudden concerns about their pregnancy to bypass the traditional emergency room and receive immediate care from obstetric physicians.
Maternal Transport Team
The SSM Health Maternal Transport Team is the most experienced in the region, serving Metro St. Louis, Metro East and the surrounding area since 2007. Our highly trained nurses are experts in taking care of pregnant moms before, during and after transport.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
If your OB physician determines you and your baby are in need of a higher level of care during your pregnancy, SSM Health and the SLUCare Physician Group offer expertise in high-risk care for maternal and fetal conditions. The team is led by physicians and nurse practitioners and consist of highly-skilled and experienced nurses, Fetal Evaluation Ultrasound Team, Genetic Counselors and Diabetes Educators in our Maternal & Fetal Care Center at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital.

The SSM Health St. Louis Fetal Care Institute at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital offers a variety of fetal diagnostic procedures, interventions and treatments for various fetal conditions. SSM Health Cardinal Glennon is home to the SSM Health St. Louis Fetal Care Institute and is a collaborative program between SSM Health Cardinal Glennon, SSM Health St. Mary’s and SLUCare Physician Group.
Labor - Delivery - Recovery and Postpartum Room
Having a baby is an exciting, miraculous journey of love! Our private labor and delivery suites offer all the amenities of home for you and your loved ones. This room is where you and your baby will spend your first moments together, bonding skin-to-skin. Our team of experienced doctors and nurses are with mothers every step of the way.
We practice mom/baby rooming to promote mom/baby bonding. This allows you to care for your new baby while our nurses are close by to help when needed. This will help you feel more comfortable taking care of your baby once you go home.
Customized birthing experience
Our team is dedicated to providing you the best possible experience during your labor and delivery journey. Whether it is the presence of a laboring tub, birthing ball or a doula, we will work with you to customize your birthing experience.Breastfeeding support
Our specialized team of lactation consultants are here seven days a week to assist with education, training and support for new moms. Additionally, our mother/baby nursing staff has received training to make breastfeeding your infant successful.Whether you are a breastfeeding novice, expert or just looking for more information, you can join our group of area moms for Weigh-In Wednesdays. Every Wednesday, new moms meet to get their baby weighed and discuss their breastfeeding progress. You don’t have to give birth at an SSM Health hospital to participate in this free support group every Wednesday.
Operating Room
Our new, state-of-the-art operating rooms are available for moms for whom a Cesarean birth is necessary.
Special Care Nursery
For babies with health concerns, our Special Care Nursery specializes in care for mothers and babies before and after birth. At SSM Health St. Clare, newborns that need extra care receive around-the-clock care by a team of nurses and doctors.
Our connection to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital gives you access to leading pediatric specialists around-the-clock should your baby need it. As a Level IV NICU (the highest level of designation), the doctors, nurses and specialists at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon are available 24/7 to provide the highest level of care for the most complex diagnoses.
