Founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children. With nearly 800 attending physicians and more than 475 pediatric subspecialists, the 309-bed hospital nonprofit hospital - known as Miami Children’s Hospital from 1983 through 2014 - is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine and routinely has many programs ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report.

The Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion (APCP) at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is a six-story, 213,000-square-foot bed tower that houses the hospital’s critical and advanced care units.

The APCP, which opened in 2016, is a state-of-the-art bed tower that houses the hospital’s intensive care units as well as cancer and blood disorders, and neurological specialty units.

The Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center is one of only two freestanding Level III pediatric trauma centers in the state of Florida and the only one serving South Florida. The Emergency Department contains 65 beds and 4 trauma beds.

Invivo Expression

This is an MRI compatible patient monitor with a rating of 5000 gauss, can be up close to the MRI magnet. It displays Non-Invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP), CO2 monitoring with Respiration Rate, Wired and wireless gating with MRI systems, and Multi-priority alarm system.

LifeFlight

LifeFlight

Our LifeFlight® program safely transports over 3,000 infants and children per year to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Patients arrive from area clinics and hospitals as well as from referring centers throughout Florida, the Caribbean and South and Central America. Service is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, through a fleet of six ambulances, a hospital-owned helicopter operated by PHI, and on-demand fixed-wing jets contracted from providers in South Florida.

Dual Monitors

The central physiologically monitoring system allows for a quick view of all monitored patients within the unit. It also enables clinicians to drill down for EKG wave reviews and vital signs trending data.


Crash Cart

With NESA’s INSIGHT Location Intelligence Solution, Crash Cart Module, the checking process becomes automated and guides the user through the 90 second process. The Crash Cart Module, can perform digital workflows, manage inventory, while delivering 100 percent compliance and reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks, including checking supplies in every drawer of the crash cart. This completely eliminates the monthly check and enables responsible departments to own the replenishment process, allowing nurses to focus on their patients.


Hill-Rom Lights

Lights displayed outside patient rooms communicate special needs of the patient within, (e.g.. high risk for falls, seizure precautions, chemotherapy precautions, flight risk precautions, ventilator present, restraints in place, pain intervention provided). The lights also alert nurses when it is time to reassess a patient's pain after administering interventions, such as medication, diversional activities, etc.). The lights are also a guide to emergency situation locations requiring additional assistance when activated (i.e. staff emergency or Code Blue)


CareSignage

CareSignage is an electronic device that displays patient precautions and other icons pertinent to the patient and is a way to communicate these precautions and needs to anyone entering the patient's room. Some examples of what is displayed are: breastfeeding, tube precaution, high risk for falls, foley in place, ECMO/CPS/open chest precautions, standard precautions, contact precautions, enteric precautions, droplet precautions, etc.


Medication Dispenser

The pneumatic tube is a chute system that allows the pharmacy and blood bank to deliver medications and blood products promptly to nurses for administration to a patient. It also enables nurses and care assistants to send specimens to the laboratory for processing.


iPad Robots

These robots enable physicians to virtually round with a medical team and interact virtually with providers, clinicians, patients and families.

The sofa in patient rooms can be converted into a sofa bed.


Family TV

Patient rooms feature a second TV for family members.


Getwell Network & Personalized TV

The bedside interactive TV monitor allows for the patient and family to be involved in the child's care. The system offers educational materials through KidsHealth®, both standard and those prescribed by the nurse, interactive games, surveys for the families to complete as well as “pop-ups” for patient-specific reminders. The system also allows the patient/family to nominate outstnading nurses for a Daisy Award.

Patient rooms feature a privacy curtain for the family area.

Rapid Registration

Rapid Registration

Rapid Registration is an initiative to minimize the registration steps during a visit to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital by gathering all the needed items prior to the appointment date. Qualifying patients will receive a call from one of our dedicated Rapid Registration team members who will verify demographic information and explain insurance benefits along with any responsibilities due at time of service.

This robot runs the NCHS Anywhere application and can most commonly be found in clinics and physician offices, it supports real-time video consultations.

This robot can most commonly be found completing patient rounds in units and for primary care consulations.

NCHS Anywhere Bear Care, by TytoCare, is a hand-held remote examination device that supports the user in assessing ears, throat, lungs, skin and heart.


Telehealth Room

Our telehealth rooms allow for doctors to virtually connect with patients throught sophisticated video-conferencing, diagnostics and testing.


Telehealth Mobile Cart

The teleheath medical cart allows for a real-time video consultation that may include a stethoscope, otoscope, ultrasound, or a 12-lead resting ECG.
